FIRST ® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is the organization that runs the robotics league we compete in. Their goal, and subsequently ours, is to inspire young minds to get involved in STEAM fields. These include Science, Technology, Engineering, Art though creativity, and Math.
Who We Are
We are a team of about 40 high school students who manage a team and build a robot and each year to compete in provincial, national, and international competitions. During a 6 week period in January to February called Build Season, we design, prototype, build, and program a robot to compete in the year's game. You can find more information about last year's game and robot here.
Our robot from the 2016/2017 season, Steamworks, is called Pita. Pita competed at two competitions so far, at Georgian College in Barrie and McMaster in Hamilton. Pita will also be competing at two more upcoming off-season events, at Southwest and STEMley Cup.
One of our main focuses as a team that operates under FIRST ® is to positively impact and promote STEAM in our community. We do this by hosting and attending several events around the year. If you'd like us to be at your event, please contact us!
Our team is funded by a variety of public and private sponsors. If your company would like to consider sponsoring us, we are available to book presentations at your company or business. We also accept leads for potential company sponsors!
How To Get Involved
There are a wide variety of roles in the robotics community. Some of these include:
- Join a team.
- Start your own FRC, FTC, FLL, or Jr. FLL team
- Be a mentor (you could be a technical or a non-technical mentor).
- Sponsor our team!
